Total Petrochem, energy-research firms strike deal to produce bio-based ethylene

French firms Total Petrochemicals, IFP Energies nouvelles and IFP subsidiary Axens have agreed to develop a bio-based process for producing ethylene through ethanol dehydration. The project will be driven by Total's proprietary catalyst formulation, while IFPEN will work on development and Axens on commercializing the technology. Industrial use is slated to begin this year.
