Model predicts recurrence of C. difficile infection

A study in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases found risk factors that may predict the likelihood of recurrence of Clostridium difficile infection. The model is based on data from pharmaceutical trials involving fidaxomicin and vancomycin. Researchers found that age, number of unformed bowel movements during the past 24 hours, creatinine levels and a history of prior infections can help define recurrence risk and also help clinicians determine the most effective treatments.
