Streaming media devices such as Roku and Apple TV are about to take a backseat to smart TVs in the U.S., according to a report from BI Intelligence. It points to sharp price declines as a harbinger of a surge in consumer demand for the sets. The research firm estimates streaming devices still hold a 53% share compared with 47% for smart TVs, but predicts the smart sets will become common in homes by 2020. Samsung and Vizio hold a 55% combined share of the smart TV market.
