Following the success of the Prescription Drug User Fee Act, Congress last October passed the Medical Device User Fee and Modernization Act, whereby makers of medical devices must pay application fees to the FDA when submitting devices for review and approval. The fees ensure timely and accurate reviews and make sure that devices sold in the U.S. meet established rigorous safety levels.
