Japan indicates willingness to ease beef import restrictions

Softening its former stance that it will require all beef to be tested for BSE, Japan yesterday indicated it would consider other measures if the U.S. can guarantee its beef exports are safe. The U.S. indicated it would expand its current testing from 38,000 cattle and would test as many of an estimated 446,000 high-risk cattle as possible.
