White House files WTO complaint over Mexican corn syrup tax

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick says the 20% tax on Mexican imports containing corn syrup is "discriminatory and protectionist," and the White House is appealing to the World Trade Organization for help. The Bush administration says the tax is meant to protect Mexican cane sugar, and Mexican president Vicente Fox has proposed abolishing the tax.
