Burd: Safeway's strategy working

Safeway President and CEO Steve Burd told a conference Thursday the chain's expanding market share means other supermarkets, rather than discounters and other formats, will suffer. "We developed a strategy that focused not on taking back business from these new players," Burd said, adding the company is "going after the conventional supermarket business."
