Gene specialists, drugmakers to focus on diabetes subtypes

International gene experts and 20 drugmakers are meeting this week to kick off the search for treatments for MODY, a new term for six genetic subtypes believed to account for 2% of diabetes cases. "We're trying to inspire some really creative thinking," said NIH Gene Chief Francis Collins, who organized the meeting.
