School invention melts ice, clears snow simultaneously

Two sixth-graders in Davenport, Iowa, may have solved the problem of dealing with the dreaded wintry mix of snow and ice. As part of a statewide competition for young inventors, Sam Hipple and Matt Moran created the Mega Melter by attaching a lever-released salt dispenser to the low bar of a traditional snowblower. "I think it is something honestly that I could see selling at Home Depot," said Kirstin Foss-Cuellar, the boys' teacher at Davenport Sudlow Intermediate School.
