Southwest may accelerate retirement of older planes

Southwest Airlines may speed up the retirement of its older planes, a move aimed at lowering costs. However, Southwest will probably face higher costs after it enhances its maintenance controls and increases its maintenance staff. The airline has also postponed plans to move some of its maintenance work to El Salvador, citing an ongoing internal review of its maintenance process.
