Better driving through "augmented reality"?

Researchers from General Motors, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Southern California are developing an augmented-reality system that may enhance driver safety. The system would highlight the edges of a roadway or upcoming signs on the vehicle's windshield using phosphors. It would also use cameras and sensors to scan for people, vehicles and other objects the driver would normally be unable to see.
