Work on "virtual fence" at U.S.-Mexico border halted

Plans to erect sensor-mounted towers and surveillance equipment along the U.S.-Mexico border have been idled. Beyond two pilot projects in Arizona, work on the rest of the "virtual fence" has been stalled and the $50 million in stimulus funds earmarked for that program has been diverted. The project will likely get reassessed, said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
