Syracuse University researchers have developed a new method of delivering Doxorubicin, a cancer-fighting drug, directly to affected cells through a system that makes use of gold nanoparticles to bind and carry the drug. Doxorubicin, or DOX, is already approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The technology can also be expanded to deliver other types of drugs by altering the DNA that binds drug molecules to the nanoparticles.
