Seven thousand construction workers will be needed to build Maryland's $2.5 billion Red Line and the $2.15 billion Purple Line. The state Department of Transportation and the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation will offer training courses for those workers who are hired. "Building a 21st Century transportation network requires a significant financial investment," said Ralign Wells, administrator of Maryland Transit. "We can make that investment even smarter by making sure that Maryland’s workforce is ready to build, to operate and to maintain that transportation network as it grows."
