Japanese product developers seek ideas from influential teen girls

Japanese companies are asking teenage girls for help designing products aimed at that demographic. Bridgestone Cycle Co. partnered with Seventeen magazine to find nine trendsetters to help create a motorized bicycle, while stationery company Zebra Co. solicited help to develop gel ink pens. "The sensitivity of these (female student) models, who are the trend leaders, is worth as much as the opinions of several hundred consumer monitors," Zebra's Kanae Nakamura said.
