Researchers at Georgetown University have developed a lipid panel that may indicate whether a person will develop Alzheimer's disease or mild cognitive impairment within three years. The scientists identified 10 molecules that "reveal the breakdown of neural cell membranes" in those who develop Alzheimer's symptoms. This allowed them to predict, with 90% accuracy, which of the study's 525 healthy subjects would go on to develop the condition.
