Two utilities turn to third parties for data insight in parallel projects

Utilities in Texas and Tennessee are leading the way as energy providers begin to open up their rapidly growing data stores to third parties in an effort to develop innovative strategies for turning the information into dollars. Utilities in Austin and Chattanooga are piloting programs to share data from smart meters and other network devices with carefully selected entrepreneurs and, in the case of the Austin-based Pecan Street Project, university researchers.
