With credit card use on the rise, issuing companies get competitive

More than 50% of purchases are now made with credit or debit cards, according to the American Bankers Association, and retailers such as Wal-Mart and Sears, Roebuck and Co. are pushing for consumers to use their debit cards. The rise in plastic payment is sparking a new wave of customer incentives to use these cards, such as 5% cash return on grocery and gas purchases.
