Report: Heavy weight may have caused Minneapolis bridge collapse

A new report investigating the cause of the collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis last summer says that more than 191 tons of rocks and sand had been placed over an essential connection plate that was half as thick as it should have been, and the weight may have caused the collapse. The materials were being used in a road-surfacing project, and 100 tons of concrete mixers and other trucks were also near the materials.
