Drone strike kills senior al-Qaida figure

A drone attack in North Waziristan killed Hussein al-Yemeni, a senior al-Qaida commander said to have been behind a December attack on an Afghanistan safe house that killed seven CIA officials. U.S. officials said that the attack shows that enclaves in Pakistan thought by al-Qaida to be safe ground are now vulnerable to U.S. strikes. Though Yemeni had contacts in al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula and the Afghan and Pakistani Taliban, recent strikes have greatly diminished the leadership of al-Qaida in the region.
