Dubai's Atlantis resort releases whale shark amid criticism

The Atlantis resort hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, says it has released a wild whale shark back into the Persian Gulf after criticism of its captivity from environmentalists. The hotel is located on the city-state's man-made, palm-shaped island Palm Jumeirah. Environmentalists and a local newspaper had called for the shark's release since the hotel announced it had rescued the shark from shallow waters off of Dubai in 2008.
