HCA policy makes flu vaccination a patient safety issue

A Hospital Corporation of America policy that requires hospital employees who can infect patients or be infected by patients with the flu to get the seasonal flu vaccine or take other preventive measures resulted overall in a 65% increase in employee vaccination rates. Employees responded positively to the policy and viewed flu vaccination as a patient safety issue, said Dr. Jonathan Perlin, HCA's president of clinical services and chief medical officer.
