Ind. increases rigor of principal-certification process

Beginning in 2013, Indiana will replace its school principal-certification exam -- which now includes multiple-choice questions -- with one that has more practical, case-study scenarios. Officials with Pearson Education, which is developing Indiana's assessment, said they hope it will become a national model. Officials said they expect the exam to focus heavily on skills needed to evaluate teachers as the state implements a new standard that requires a greater number of classroom observations.
