Safety of building above tunneling in Seattle is questioned

Tunnel work on a $1.9 billion light-rail extension in Seattle is expected to pass beneath an 88-year-old apartment house today, and some are concerned that vibrations or soil settling may crack the structure. Crews have poured a concrete-grout wall at the breakthrough point to add strength and have installed sensors for the building. More shallow tunneling work earlier did no damage to any buildings.
