Data show conflicting risks in surgical ligation for PDA

Analysis of study data showed surgical ligation to treat preterm infants with patent ductus arteriosus may carry a lower mortality risk but raise the likelihood of neurodevelopmental, lung and retinal problems compared with medication treatment, Canadian researchers reported in Pediatrics. Researchers said the studies included in the analysis did not allow them to determine reasons for the changes in risk.
