WhatsApp chief seeks to quash rumors about privacy changes

WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum says users can rest assured that the service will not change its data-collection practices now that Facebook has purchased it. WhatsApp does not store identifying information such as user e-mails or birth dates. "If partnering with Facebook meant that we had to change our values, we wouldn't have done it," Koum says.
