Many metro homes lack important safety features

Many homes in large metro areas do not have important fire safety features. A three-story house in New York where 10 people died in a fire this month had no sprinklers or fire escape and just one stairwell. None of the deficiencies appeared to violate the building code because one- and two-family homes do not face strict regulation.
