New safety equipment rules due in November

A recent lawsuit by the AFL-CIO and the United Food and Commercial Workers claimed the Labor Department's failure to adopt rules requiring employers to pay for protective clothing and other safety equipment was endangering workers in meatpacking, poultry, construction and other industries. The Labor Department has asked the court to delay action on the suit, saying they are committed to issuing the safety equipment rules in November.
