Help poor countries cope with soaring food prices, UNDP chief urges

United Nations Development Programme Administrator Kemal Dervis on Wednesday appealed for richer countries to open their wallets wider for poor nations that are struggling more than usual now because of the rapid increase in food and oil prices. Dervis made the appeal toward the end of a visit to Bangladesh, where he reviewed programs aimed at helping millions of people affected by last year's devastating cyclone.
