U.S. video game advertising spending will reach $1 billion in 2012, up from $502 million in 2007, according to eMarketer. Of this total, in-game advertising spending will grow to $650 million in 2012, from $295 million in 2007. Spending on Web-based in-game advertising, which includes sponsored sessions and display ads in or around the online game space, will be the major growth engine for video game advertising. Ads in Web-based games will grow to $478 million in 2012, from $205 million in 2007. This represents a growth of 133%.
