Bank of England quietly pursues GDP, money targets

The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee shifted its focus from its goal of 2% growth on the consumer-price index to finding ways to increase GDP and money-supply growth, according to recently released minutes. The minutes indicate that the committee decided earlier this month that the shortfall in spending in the U.K. economy is likely to require the bank to embark upon "a significant program of asset purchases."
