Intensive glucose control does not help hyperglycemic preemies

Premature babies with hyperglycemia who received intensive glucose control therapy exhibited slower linear growth and had higher hypoglycemia risk than preemies who had standard treatment, researchers reported in the journal Pediatrics. Greater overall weight gain and head circumference were observed in infants who had intensive treatments, but the difference disappeared by the equivalent of 36 weeks gestational age, and survival was not improved.
