Railroads continue to play a role in Bakken oil transportation

Freight railroads are a growing factor in transportating crude oil from the Bakken region as oil companies seek an efficient alternative while pipeline issues are still unresolved. Canadian National and Canadian Pacific are two of the Class I's working to expand their operations in the area. As many as 10 crude-by-rail terminal projects in North Dakota are planned and are expected to boost the state's capacity for oil production and strengthen its relationship with the railroads.
