Music piracy doesn't affect digital sales, EU report finds

Digital music piracy "should not be viewed as a growing concern" for copyright holders, nor is it likely to negatively affect digital music sales, according to research from the European Union's Information Society Unit. The report also found that "new music consumption channels such as online streaming positively affect copyrights owners." However, piracy that results in a "substantial sales displacement of music in physical format" could have a "negative" effect on music industry sales as a whole, the report said.
