SPECT with DaTscan may boost differential diagnosis of dementia

SPECT imaging using the radioactive iodine-based tracer DaTscan helped differentiate cases of Lewy body dementia and non-amnestic mild cognitive impairment from Alzheimer's disease and amnestic MCI, according to findings presented at a neurology meeting. DaTscan was approved last year as an imaging agent for the differentiation of Parkinson's disease from essential tremor.
