Ariz. city council votes to oppose law blocking tribal casino

The Glendale, Ariz., City Council voted 4-3 to oppose a federal law that would block a tribal casino. The Tohono O'odham Nation purchased land more than 10 years ago on the city's west side, and the council had opposed efforts to build a $550 million casino complex on the parcel of land -- at a cost of $3 million to the city. However, Councilman Gary Sherwood said the council wanted to extend an "olive branch" to the tribe, and the two parties will begin talks soon.
