Dubai to support tourism drive by doubling hotel room volume by 2020

Dubai hopes to draw 20 million tourists each year ahead of the World Expo in 2020 and is working to raise its room count to as many as 160,000 by then to accommodate the increase, said Helal Saeed Almarri, Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing's director general. The government has already implemented several policies to aid hotel development, particularly in the midscale segment, which include reducing the pre-approval period to two months as well as offering incentives for developers of three- and four-star hotels.
