Opinion: Giving California Unions More Classroom Control Would Harm Students

A bill to give the California Teachers Association power to insert curriculum and textbook selection into the collective bargaining process is an "outrageous power grab destined to hurt schools," says the chief of the Center for Education Reform. Granting the union control over classroom issues would strip parents of their influence over schools and would encourage negotiators to seek the least challenging academic programs to protect teachers, Allen argues.
