Cord blood potential seen, more donors wanted for research

Scientists see great promise in umbilical cord stem cells to regenerate tissue and treat disease. A Scottish researcher whose team grew liver tissue from umbilical cord stem cells said, "cord blood stem cells can and are helping to treat people right now." However, researchers say they need more women to make public donations of umbilical cord stem cells.
