New center will study teacher merit pay

Using a $10 million Education Department grant, researchers at Vanderbilt University will soon be putting Texas and Nashville pay-for-performance programs under the microscope. The newly established National Center on Performance Incentives aims to shed light on whether teachers behave differently when bonuses are offered and whether student achievement improves as a result.
