In a crisis, leaders need to be both aggressive and pragmatic, writes Harvard Business School professor and former Medtronic CEO Bill George. He argues that in hard times a leader needs to be able to assess the situation and then make sure the company is prepared for an even worse outcome. A leader should also see the opportunities in a bear market, using the chaos to make difficult but necessary policy changes, while keeping an eye out for ways to take advantage of weakened rivals.
