Blumenthal named national health IT coordinator

The HHS has named Dr. David Blumenthal as national coordinator for health information technology, a role in which he will help determine how to spend the $19 billion set aside for health IT in the economic-stimulus package. Blumenthal, director of the Institute for Health Policy at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Partners HealthCare System, also has served as an adviser to President Barack Obama and Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.
