Fla. county's plan would consolidate dispatch services

Leaders across Broward County, Fla., have proposed consolidating their 11 9-1-1 dispatch centers into three to save millions of dollars and provide better service. Increased cellphone use has meant up to 10% of 9-1-1 calls in the county have to be transferred from one dispatch center to another, forcing callers to explain their emergency twice and wasting crucial seconds in response time.
