Nurse initiation of steroids benefits children with asthma

The initiation of oral corticosteroids by a nurse prior to an assessment by a doctor improved the care received by children with asthma in the pediatric emergency department, Canadian researchers reported in the journal Pediatrics. The study also found that nurse-initiated steroid treatment was associated with lower hospital admission rates.
