U.S. olive oil producers prepare marketing order for USDA

Olive oil producers in the U.S. are writing their own marketing order that would set higher quality standards for producing, labeling and testing olive oil. Marketing orders are submitted by domestic growers to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which provides enforcement. The move would require producers to prove that their products meet claims of origin, grades and best-by dates, and proponents want the order to apply to imports.
