Virginia hospital launches petition drive to open NICU

LewisGale Medical Center in Salem, Va., has begun a community petition drive to convince the state to approve its application for an eight-bed NICU, which originally was denied because it would duplicate existing services. The hospital's new application cites data showing a 21% increase in births at the hospital from 2010-2011.
