Census data: Sun Belt rebounds, but many U.S. counties are in decline

Census data show that population growth has rebounded in parts of the Sun Belt -- a trend that is fueled in part by oil and gas drilling. "Even the deepest recession since the Great Depression cannot permanently disrupt the decades-long trend of growth in the South and West," said Robert Lang, a professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. However, the data also show a record number of counties across the country experienced "natural decrease," which happens when there are more deaths than births.
