Gastric banding reduces metabolic syndrome, BP drug use in small study

A study presented at the American College of Cardiology conference found the majority of 50 obese patients who had laparoscopic gastric banding to lose weight saw their metabolic syndrome symptoms resolved for up to five years. Researchers from New York University School of Medicine said the procedure also led to lower rates of diabetes and less use of hypertension medications. The trial involved patients with a body mass index between 30 and 40.
