Maternal childhood abuse linked to autism risk

Women who experienced severe physical, emotional or sexual abuse during their childhood faced a threefold increased risk of having a child with autism, according to a study in the journal JAMA Psychiatry. Even moderate exposure to abuse was associated with a 60% greater risk, though the absolute risk of autism remained very low, researchers said.
