Study finds link between oral cancer and periodontitis

Periodontitis, missing teeth and alveolar bone loss were associated with a higher likelihood of having oral squamous cell carcinoma in a study of 620 patients. Dental caries, however, was not associated with a higher risk of oral cancer. The research was presented at a meeting of the International Association for Dental Research.
